New member here. I have a 1999 chevy blazer and am trying to get the AC going. Just blows warm air. Someone said the compressor needs replacing/leaking but I thought I'd try to R-134a with leak seal. When I start the process the compressor is always cycling on and off. On the gauge it starts at 0/low in the white then within 5 seconds its in the red zone on the gauge > 60 psi. Then the compressor kicks in and gets it back in the white. Then compressor goes off and it goes immediately back into the red zone on the gauge > 60 psi. So I want to recharge it with leak seal but it keeps going into the red zone every cycle so not sure if it's ok to recharge it. Any ideas? My auto repair level is just basic. Hoping someone might have some ideas to explain to me what is going on. thanks!!

Sure, that's a great way to destroy the whole system.

First off, sealers are not designed to seal compressors but they will sure gum up the rest of the system. The smartest thing you can do it get it into a competent AC shop and let him diagnose it properly and go from there.

Thanks for your reply!I agree the best thing for me to do is to see a competent AC shop and let him diagnose it properly and go from there.

But just for my learning can you describe what you think might be going on with this:

It's either low on refrigerant, has a restriction or a bad cycling switch.

Friend: It's a '99 vehicle, so how long has it been without any loss of cooling power WHEN it's warm/hot enough? The vintage and older you really only expected maybe 7 years if lucky for normal and expected loss especially if this endures real Winter and the cold that goes with it.

Learning how to keep it up to spec via pressures or OMG the "Death Kits" is what you described is a real skill all by itself. Yes you could but not with color gauges nor that crap at all.

It's so costly for dependable equipment most of the time not worth it or scary to me and I do this. I don't want junk from your vehicle in my equipment so good bye - take it elsewhere!
If really costly to get it looked at and a quote what either a vacuum and recharge will cost or now not so common "top it off" by someone who really knows how - not many even in the biz!

Last and reason for all the scares and warnings is the greedy makers of the stuff EVERYWHERE could care less if you blow up the system or not just buy the product and shut up! NO YOU DON'T GET YOUR $$ BACK EITHER!
This is now a 21 year old so be it lots of stuff out there that or lots older still fine. Seek the right help or at least a quote first. If out of control and you don't believe then time to come to a site like this and still it's your risk. A/C and many things are so costly with an easy mistake sometimes there's no bargain to be had sometimes yes this so far IDK for sure + never will without stuff in front of me.

Not much time to custom go thru each situation there's a lot to know first then trust the equipment isn't what you described and really sorry they sell it without serious warnings of how much damage you can do or worse hurt yourself via "freeze burns" no better that heat burns.
Carry on I just can't find the time soon or fast to walk you thru this one have too much other stuff live in my face right now!
