My 1985 Camaro is having some problems. I just finished installing new compressor, orifice tube and dryer. Flushed the system with ac flush, added oil and hooked up the vacuum pump. After correcting a couple of leaks I held vacuum. As I added refrigerant my low side pressures worked the way up to 120psi, high side was 120 to 150psi. I stopped and let the car set and took a nap. When I returned the static pressure is at 120 on both sides. When I started the car and turned on the air low side pressure was 40psi, high side was 180 to 200+/-psi as the compressor cycled on and off a few times the low side made its way back to 120 to 130psi. High side ended up about the same as the low side. What am I missing?

A/C especially a pre 134a vehicle that just got a new compressor is going to need lots of info from you as to what was done and used for materials, what refrigerant now and a whole long list.


At the moment you are just reading credible static pressures of a condensable gas and that's it. All that leads up to being ready to charge a system at all not mentioned well enough and may have failed already - just can't say.

It appears the compressor wasn't running at that time.
