Hi Guys, I have multiple problems on my a/c. I have a a 2002 Toyota Tazz 130 2E motor, with an aftermarket a/c. I have tried 2 auto electrician who cant point out the exact problem....
Blower works in car and condenser fan engages.
1: I cant seem to track which fuse controls the system.
2: Dash switch light does not come on when pressed in. (illuminates with headlights turned on.
3: Pressure switch is a 4 wire (why 4) I cant test across the switch due to angle and location. Switch has 2 lives coming in, 1 pair heads back to cabin and other pair heads to harness near batt.
4: I have switched relays. All stays the same.
5: Clutch not clicking in from switch. Added a test cable from batt and it engages, but system not cooling.

Could anyone suggest where and how to test each component to eliminate possible problems.

first auto elec suggested could be pressure switch but could not be sure.

second got system activated (light on switch and compressor running but apparently only cooling to 25C/77F. an hour later i switched on the unit and light did not come on again.

My face feels like it is gonna melt off in this heat ha ha.

I don't know of this car in general sold in the US but not totally relevant as it's aftermarket A/C so need to know what that maker designed into it more than any factory info.

4 wires to low switch? Two probably activate fan for condenser, two to engage clutch at compressor.

No power found along the way? TWO auto electric techs can't find source power!!!! It would be empowered when key is in ''run'' position only hopefully and more hope right at the fuse box?

Blower means nothing as that is the same blower for any use.

It doesn't light up when requested a clue there so follow that if power at the switch back to source perhaps one in-line fuse used. I can't guess much more than that. Seems like it doesn't ever recognize you are requesting A/C and lacks power (12v+) from the source,

You have an aftermarket system Unless somebody supplies you with a wiring diagram, nobody is going to know how that system is wired.

Suggests it was hacked into headlight power which in many vehicles is always empowered or at least what we call "parking lights" and shouldn't have touched another system IMO.

There are some decent aftermarket set ups that don't invade the whole dash and looks and said to work OK. Much, much older aftermarket stuff really stunk IMO and not worth the invasion it made to the car AND passenger area.

If you have a brand name of the maker on it anywhere it should have (if still in biz) a site to go to for some help. If not and I'm not joking if you really want up to need A/C I personally think it's much better to buy another car completely that came with it originally. There's lots more than just a compressor involved all over a vehicle is designed for the extra load on the vehicle in all aspects,

No, it's just tapped into dash illumination to light up it's own controls.

I don't think we'll know Jack Poo about what does what and when it should - just that it doesn't work.

OP (original poster) YOU will have to find a brand name for this sooner or later. Do you know if this was installed when new or any idea when?

I just can't believe TWO techs have had it in person and are clueless why it doesn't have power. There are MANY reasons why it wouldn't cool but if it just doesn't react with so much as a light that it is enabled and nobody can find it that far you need other techs to look at it.

For all I/we know this is a factory designed aftermarket set up that looks just like nothing in the dash or underhood was messed with. Can't know without more info.

Truth is I personally wouldn't even want a car that had this done to it if it worked or not - too invasive for me for a car built without,

Hey Tom / Hammer, No vehicle was nopt sold in US, RSA only.
Where would I begin to search for branding? On the compressor?

4 wires to pressure switch on high side of system. would these head out to relays?

At the dash switch (2 button), I have 5 cable coming into back of switch. Only live I get is when the lights are one for switch illumination.
Fuse box only has original marked fuses for standard model. No additional for a/c.

Will try to trace Switch source back.
As I mentioned, the last auto electrician got the light to come on and comp to engage and when i tried it later was dead again.

I bought the car in 2006 and the system was already fitted. It looks to me like is factory designed aftermarket.

Will certainly look at a new car with factory fitted a/c when i can afford it ha ha.

Currently looking for suggestions on tracing and testing the system from component to component, and how to test each component of the system.

One thing I'll suggest

All the dealers I've worked at here in the states have had an aftermarket installer they sublet cars to to have A/C installed. Both for new and used cars.
Maybe contact a local dealer there and inquire who they use
Maybe then they could shed some light on what brand system it is.

ok will check with them,
I had originally gone to them, they took 8 hours to look at the system. response was the think it was the pressure switch but could not be certain, they would need to charge for the new switch, installation and re-gas the system, with no assurance that this would solve the problem.....

As I already stated, nobody knows how this company decided to wire this particular unit without seeing a wiring diagram. There are dozens of different ways to wire the circuits. A 4 wire switch means it serves a dual purpose for both high and low pressure and could be inserted anywhere into the circuit.

It's going to be a challenge no matter what. If the car was already retrofitted as a four year old car it may have been done new and may have been the only way to get this model with air at all? Can't know that either. I do remember super long ago a model of Datsun (1978, 210 model) sold to the US only came without A/C but was marked A/C ready for actually OE parts. Basically you didn't know that car was or wasn't so called aftermarket just it was finished here in the US.

SA or you say RSA (South Africa) would near certainly have a lot of reasons to sell cars new for specifics for a wide assortment of differences in safety, emissions, lighting and of course which side of the car the steering wheel would be on and take a monster car maker like Toyota to make models for assorted places and what fuel and gasses would be used for A/C was still in some turmoil.

Double J has found a common maker and that leads to these "Service Centers" for A/C so if you can't find any help from Toyota as to what might have been sold there with possible specs for giving this car A/C then go to one of those places and bet they would recognize the set up.

Said in this thread back some now that someone had compressor going for a while so it might be defaulting to not engaging from a problem with the system not surprising by the age of it at all with any set up.

Leave the link Double J - this is going to be a pest enough and if not that brand it may lead to another for this person and suggest one of those service centers that specializes in automotive A/C.

Know that A/C isn't DIY friendly at all and even here (US) some shops don't take it on at all and send it all out including new car dealers who would diagnose that it needs this or that and still send it out,

AC compressor will run on some models when you have the mode selected for defrost Does this overheat while your idling or cruising when you turn the heater on? How is the coolant condition and level.
