Blower will not switch from dash Sign In

Hey all. I picked up a 2013 Cruze for cheap and I've been having trouble diagnosing/fixing a problem with the climate system. I'm hoping someone here can help...

Basically, my blower will not switch from the dash. When I push the button to switch to the forward vents or floor, the blower motor winds down and back up like it is supposed to, but, the air just continues to blow through the dash vent. I've tested all of the fuses/relays that are related to the blower motor and AC and they are all good to go. Also, I can switch between hot and cold air and the AC turns on and off.

This leads me to believe that there's either an obstruction somewhere that's preventing the airflow from redirecting or there's a disconnected/broken duct somewhere.

It's also worth mentioning that the blower motor is quite loud. It sounds like the bearing is getting bad. That said, if the blower motor wasn't functioning properly, I likely wouldn't be getting any airflow at all, amiright?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Blower will not switch from dash Sign In

So, if I understand your problem the issue is with it not switching modes from dash to floor.

This is done using an electric actuator and a series of gears and levers as a single motor operates a series of doors. When it opens one door it simultaneously closes another so this system needs to be examined closely to see if every part of it is working and there are no broken levers or gears.

This system is on the left end of the HVAC housing.

Blower sounds? A separate issue to this but it may be bad. If this "climate controlled" system has a cabin air filter that would stress out blower more,

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm guessing this is exactly what I'm looking forward. Is the picture you posted specific to a Chevie Cruze or just something to give me a general idea of what I'm looking for? I'm having a bit of trouble making sense of that pic. Where on the vehicle am I looking for this? Is it somewhere under the hood or near the blower motor behind the glove box?

That is your exact vehicle.

It's under the dash on the driver's side on the end of the HVAC housing.

I would advise you not to remove anything until you know exactly what you are doing as these components are all synched together to open and close doors at the right time and amount. Once removed it can be hell to get them synched back up.

Thanks for the advice! I found a pretty good video detailing the system. I'll let you know how I make out, if you're interested.

Re: Blower will not switch from dash Sign In

After some reading I learned that this particular car is known for sucking up a lot of leaves and debris over time. It tends to eventually end up in the blower and cause noise. There was also no cabin air filter in the car when I bought it. I'm going to clean it out good and lube up the bearing and hopefully it's good to go.

Re: Blower will not switch from dash Sign In

I don't think you can take those apart to lube anything a new bearing probably isn't available separately.

Not sure but many small motors have a sealed bearing at working end and a bushing at the other.

Brushes would fall down if you could know how to do that.

Refresh - by the time a bearing is bad it's gone not fixable + new grease wouldn't fix it,
