Charging not going well

I've been working on GrandPa's 1992 Buick PA R12 AC system for over 2 months now - I have studied the charging procedure over and over - every single piece of AC hardware is new - system held great vacuum . Did all my pre-checks....Today was the big day to finally charge and then ...flop.. With the car off, I charged one 12oz. R12 can as a liquid on the High side (HR6 Compressor) - no problem there. Turned off the high side valve and then connected 2nd can to the Low. Turned the car on - Compressor started cycling. Low and High side pressures going up and down pretty quickly as the compressor cycles. As soon as I open the Low side valve for the 2nd R12 can to flow in , its stops cycling and then both pressures climb/equalize at 110psi - its about a 100deg. here in Dallas. ..Even though I put the 2nd can in hot water - upright- seems like no more gas is flowing , compressor is doing nothing and gauges are equalized at 110...I tried to jump the Low Pressure Cutoff switch just to see if the clutch would engage - but nothing happened. I let the car cool down and then started it up again wit the AC on. The compressor started cycling and since my R12 can was still connected I opened the valve to try to charge more. As soon as I open the Low side valve the compressor stopped cycling and the Low Pressure went to 110psi - same for High side. Any help would be highly appreciated.

You're not clear on one thing. Is the compressor disengaging when this happens? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If it cycles too many times in a certain period of time the ecm will disable the compressor and set code 66. You should be changing this by using a refrigerant scale instead. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I found that my Low side coupler wasn't making good contact with the Schrader valve...all is good and sorry for the trouble.

?In Reply To my Low side coupler wasn't making good contact with the Schrader valve Hope you are either using REAL R-12 not "Freeze 12" with that problem. That's a common problem with retrofit adaptors you can adjust or have to not generally OE R-12 Shraders. Note that Freeze-12 isn't one molecule of real R-12 at all, worse it's a whole different procedure to work with, T
