Same thing. Grounds if known don't all end up with a screw to metal anything anywhere near where you think. There's 10 or more miles of wire in these cars (and others) chasing wire gets impossible at least know it is or isn't when it should be now, Tom

Turns out I already had a test light that I've not had the need to use yet, so I tested the connection and it's ground. The guy who repaired the cc unit suggested that I use a multimeter to see if the voltage changes on the ground wire when attempting to change fan speeds. Do you recommend this?

As for the other two faults:

03 (Code displayed during diagnostic procedures)

Possible Source(s):
- Automatic temperature control sensor open or short.

I'm having a real hard time finding anything on replacing an a/c temperature sensor or even a temperature sensor, period, which leads me to believe that it's part of the climate control unit itself or tied to another part. Am I right? Cause it's not even in my Chilton DIY book.

02 (Code displayed during diagnostic procedures)

Possible Source(s):
- A/C air temperature control door damaged or inoperative.

This one's a little confusing to me. Is this what is referred to as a blend door in later models? And if so, that means I have to replace the actuator behind the dash, yes? I've already watched a video on that and the process seems easy, but time consuming. I'd have to go the extra mile compared to that guy because there are two screws he couldn't get to that require accessing with further work, I believe, and he decided to just snap those parts off and not worry about it.

1st question only for now: Use an incandescent bulb type tester. Same type thing just a bulb you see inside. This shouldn't be that hard to see it brighter or dimmer with speed request.
LEDs stay about the same brightness handy but useful to have both, T

No, I don't see that test working. That module operates on a digital signal.

The in car temp sensor is at the top of the dash at the far end of the passenger side. But again, this likely has nothing to do with your problem.

The blend door actuator is a really big job and it looks like the dash has to be removed to access it and there is a very good chance that isn't even the problem. The door itself can be broken which would push you much further into this job.

You also have to remember that these could be old codes that only occurred once, ages ago and there is no current problem. Sometimes doors just get stuck. You would have to clear all the codes and start over which would be a good idea anyway. Disconnecting the battery should accomplish that.

just to be clear, I know that the two codes have nothing to do with the problem at hand being the fan speed. I'm restoring this car to near showroom new even though I won't get the investment in money and time back. This is my car and I want it to be as great a condition as I can get it; having a properly working climate control system is part of that.

I've disconnect the battery many times in the time i've had the car, so I'm assuming that this is current. But assumptions being what they are, I'll check it out.

I've checked out videos of the work needed to get to the actuator, like I said, and it's a big time consuming job but nothing I can't handle. If the door itself is the problem, then I'm on shakier ground for sure. We'll come back to that later, because that job won't be handled in the relatively near future since fan control speed and automatic temperature control are the priorities for me.

The in car temp sensor then is something that I can get at easy enough. can you link an example for a replacement. I think they're discontinued, though, which means pick'n'pull time.

Ok, so that's one problem down.

Are we at a dead end as far as fan control is concerned? Cause if the control module is oem new, is wired properly, with a stable ground wire, that leads us back to the climate control unit, right?

No, I would favor the speed control module. That is far more common. I've done many of them. I can't remember ever changing a control head for this symptom.

You also have the wiring in between the control head and the speed control module that could be a problem, especially if there are any connectors in between

Well the wires for this module merge with wires from the fan and the hood light and I think that whole bundle goes into the passenger compartment. You already know that though.

I'm off to work soon, so I'll have to come back to this tomorrow. You guys have a great rest of your day.

Go back to square one and start over. You've missed something here.

You could have gotten bad parts, wired it incorrectly or have a wiring connection problem somewhere in between.
