GMC Sierra 5.3l Still won't cool Sign In

Anyway, my 1999 Sierra 1500 5.3 L. Brand new HU6 Compressor w/clutch. New dryer, new orifice tube, 2 pounds of new freon. Unit still blowing warm, my expansion valve assembly is chattering now and it wasn't until new parts where installed. Why do I have an orific tube and an expansion valve both? I thought it was one or the other. Anyway, i could use some advice as to my next step to take, anyone?

Wadecar: This site isn't well set up as a replacement for a tech school program to learn even the basics of automotive A/C.

This would have both an "O" tube and expansion valve if a dual system with rear A/C and can't find that listed.

What happened to the possible failed compressor that made you think it was bad? If it was a catastrophic meltdown you usually have a real project on your hands none DIY friendly.

You didn't list any pressures suggests you really aren't or weren't up to this job in the first place.

What's the story?

You can't have both unless the expansion valve is for an auxiliary unit in the rear. The front uses an orifice tube and the rear uses an expansion valve.

I can't find this vehicle with any expansion valve or rear A/C as even optional which if any would be in the headliner. It would also require more like 64oz of refrigerant if they did do dual not 2 lbs.
Noise and no cooling: Compressor already burned up from lack of oil is my guess.

OP - this isn't DIY stuff. Failures cause extra work than the original problem much of the time.

Your post suggests you aren't equipped or aware of doing this job - no harm intended to you just that it's not that plain and simple,

I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the body style. Suburbans and Tahoes have optional rear AC but I don't think any pick-ups do, maybe full 4 doors.

Regardless, front AC uses a tube. not a valve.

The easy way to identify the system is if it uses an accumulator in the suction line, it uses an orifice tube. If it uses a receiver dryer in the high side liquid line, it has an expansion valve system. This applies to the main system only.

Ya - could only find this as a pick-up truck for 1999. We know it's about the same cab and might have had a 4door version but no rear A/C listed.

I can see this now. Compressor grenade and condenser is clogged, can't flush - no heat exchanged there = no cooling.

OP isn't back yet as high bet it was thought this was like tossing an alternator or something - many do it seems. Sounds like another sad ending for this and a start all over - professionally,

Thnx for input. But must have misunderstood what i was looking at. Its a orifice tube and a suction discharge assembly system theres a knock/ clatter noise coming from the suction discharge assembly. It starts after the compressor has ran for approx 5 min. The sytem still blows warm. Hi side is cold and lo side is warm. Why does the suction discharge assembly make this noise

What happened to the first compressor? What are the pressures now?
Ice on discharge line suggests a blockage + noise already suggests lack of oil or already failed replacement compressor. Did you spin oil thru new/rebuilt one first on the bench at all?

What did the "O" tube look like? No new condenser mentioned - they clog and quit exchanging heat easily.

I think this compressor is down low on it's own tiny belt vs for the 5.7 was up top and both ports up top so not sure where ports are on this.
Doesn't matter yet. It matters what happened first and then what your approach is going to be and we don't have that yet. You think it has a rattling expansion valve and doesn't have one at all doesn't bode well that you understand the system very well.

YOU have to tell us something about the way it failed and pressure now plus if you the way you say you managed to get 2 lbs = 32 ounces of refrigerant in this. If forcing it just how did you? Yes you can but how?

Other and rare is a few but not mentioned is two "O" tubes now if one is in a high side hose and another at the condenser it won't work but you didn't mention replacing a hose.

The high risk of DIYing A/C work like this is your new stuff is now already junk, more info lost on how much oil to use or flush to zero and start totally over again. This sets you back worse than it was before you started. The parts don't come with comprehensive instructions YOU are supposed to already know,
