98 chevy blazer 6 cyl. 120,000 mi. Automatic-Climate Control on dash. Slight heat comes down at feet and at defrost. Cold air comes out of all vents on dash. No matter what temp heat is set at same temp on every level. AC stopped working over summer. Mechanic said it was compressor . Now this makes me wonder if that was right. I did not replace compressor yet.Have had looked at twice, regarding heat issue. Getting colder in Maine, Need heat. Heater Core, Anti Freeze is good. Could it be vacuums or electronic mix up on panel with switches? Last mechanic said would probably have to have looked at by dealer. What do you think?

Re: Heater Problems Sign In

Isn't there a full size and a S-10 size Blazer for this year? Which one would help.

Either way there is a "blend door" for amount of heat or cool requested that can fail - I think more common that the control actuator fails more than the door itself on GMs.

Good and bad news. It may not need A/C work (the refrigerant side not involed with heating ability really) and that this is just confused temp request..........

OR - the heater control valve (not used in all models) is stuck not allow flow of warm/hot coolant to heater core or only partial. You would probably notice something in line on inlet heater hose (smaller of two) to firewall going cold after a device and that would warrant its replacement if high tem and heat was requested when noticed.

If you are up to this youself be prepared to lots of fussy dash work possible. If sending this out it would really help to have a shot with a tech that does full service MVAC (motor vehicle air conditioning) as knowing about the A/C and duct work may be essential for the quickest, most accurate repair. I know - Maine is not the A/C capitol of the USA - neither is Massachusetts - I only know of ONE sole A/C dedicated shop in all of New England - you don't need to go that crazy and should have no problem getting this done in Maine.

Make no mention that A/C didn't cool when you go for getting heater fixed as I'm not so sure that's a definate yet. When it didn't work for you, it would only have to fight with the heater a little bit which would cancel any cooling effect and throw off diagnosis by common pressure taking unless tech was really A/C savy.

Good luck,

T
