I have a 1996 Buick,3.8 liter with about 168,000 miles on it. Temp gauge starting to go up fast after a few miles and am getting only cold air from heater. I changed theromstat last winter. Figured putting in new one might be cheapest fix, auto parts store said it might be clogged heater core. You think i should try a radiator flush first, or go with the thermomsat?

More likely air in system or coolant low for whatever reason. You need to know it's full at radiator - some vehicles use a remote cap away from radiator so hard to tell. If heater core has boiling or plain hot air only it won't throw much or any good heat - sounds odd but true, T
