ODOR COMING FROM VENTS Sign In

I have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and it has a horrible odor coming from the air vents. It can be smelled with or without ac/heater on. What can it be and how can I get it fixed. TIA

If warm enough one check is to see if with A/C working hard and humid enough (most areas would be) if cool should be dripping water underneath. IF not, see if the aluminum looking A/C hoses under hood larger ones are cool or sweating at all or dry and not cool at all.
What I'm aiming at is if it's properly making water (called condensate) that can clog and who knows what yuk is stuck inside the HVAC case, pollens, foliage of sorts even a dead critter maybe?
Air should come in for fresh air by the wipers. Try now just to minimize it spraying copious amounts of Lysol try to kill any bacteria can be awful for you and passengers if real.

Hard to describe odor there really isn't much normally except engine coolant a light odor of that is distinct still IDK an accurate discretion for you. It's foul anyway to most also can make windows inside a funny foggy that doesn't clean off real well.

Look for condensate first rule that out do the Lysol anyway will not harm anything,

Horrible odor is very descriptive.

If it's a moldy smell, Tom is on the right track.

If it's really nasty you may have a critter that crawled up there and died.

I suggest you remove the blower motor. You will be able to see if anything died in there and you will have access to the evaporator to spray some Lysol on it.
