Rear expansion valve Sign In

I have a 95 Astro van. The rear ac blows warm air. I need to replace the rear expansion valve. I was told that it was in the rear on the left side. I uncovered some of the panel to feel behind it but could not see or feel it. This is a conversion van also. Do anyone know where I can locate this valve, thanks.

Re: Rear expansion valve - 95 Astro conversion van Sign In

"Conversion Van"

Is this factory rear A/C or aftermarket? Either way the X valve would be on liquid line right before the evaporator. Some and can't say for sure on Astro are totally sealed in a plastic case in which you would cut a hole to get at and glue piece back on later when done. If you can get at it, it would look or feel like this.......

You may need the conversion company or some serious factory suggestions on how to replace that. Not a good DIY job, IMO.

Why do you think it's bad? Just warm air isn't the only possible reason.

If you know the exact weight of charge for this - even conversions usually will put a tag underhood for info if altered, and recover refrigerant, pull and hold a full vacuum for hours then recharge there's a fair chance a sticky X valve will behave when properly charged up again.

Usually rear wins over the "O" tube front. With rear shut off entirely what are your pressures with front operating and temps (ambient in front of grille and vent output temps) at 1,500 RPM, blower on max and fan on high?

Re: Rear expansion valve Sign In

If it's a factory unit, it will be located in the left rear, just behind the rear wheel.
