I have a 1998 mercury gran marquis with a v8 4.6L with 83,000 miles. when I turn on the cars a/c it blows hot air. the freon level is good. If I disconnect the battery for 1 minute, then reconnect the battery the a/c works perfectly, but only for a day or 2. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

When it is blowing warm is the ac compressor clutch engaged? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

How did you determiner that the refrigerant level was correct? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Guess we don't know if engaged when this happens or how refrigerant level was known correct. Very common on close model years is the clutch air gap too large and couldn't be easier to fix if so. You don't even need to take the belt off to remove one shim. If too large it would respond to a tap on outer plate when it should be engaged and if not more investigating as to why not, T
