ac on 2002 Bravada Sign In

I have a 2002 Olds Bravada I bought during cold weather. The ac works good sitting in driveway but the second I put it in gear it blows the ac fuse. Not sure where to start looking for the problem. What is so strange about it is the ac works good till put in gear,so I unplugged the compressoritself ,turned ac on put in gear and it didn't shoot the fuse, plugged the compressor back up and it works fine till its put in gear.I thought the compressor was bad at first but don't understand why it only does it when I put in gear.
Any suggestions?

There should be three wires on the compressor clutch connector. Dark green is power from the AC relay which is protected by that fuse that you states blows. The black wire is ground.

There is also a third wire, light green, that goes back to the PCM. This wire is basically connected to the dark green wire when the compressor clutch engages. When that happens voltage is sent back to the engine computer to let it know the compressor is on.

If that dark green wire is shorting out, it will cause the fuse to pop when the compressor clutch is engaged. Since you disconnected the compressor clutch connector, that wire being shorted can't cause the fuse to blow.

It is possible that circuit only shorts when the engine or harness moves when you put the transmission into gear. You really should do a through inspection of the electrical harnesses. You could even install a circuit breaker in that fuse slot and then manipulate the harnesses. If you wiggle and move the harnesses and the breaker opens and the compressor turns off, you have something rubbing on something. Pay attention to how the harness goes around and against sharp metal surfaces.

Well I bought more fuses and a circuit breaker today.Plugged in the circuit breaker and it shot first thing, moved all the wires, didn't see anything, pulled the box from the console moved all the wires didn't see anything, moved the shifter back and forth several times .Started it turned on the ac worked good, put it in gear ac still worked ,went out moved wires again, drove up the road and back ac working good.I guess it will do it again sometime but for now its working. Thanks for all the info.

That is one thing about electrical shorts, sometimes moving harnesses around can actually fix the problem and leave you wondering where the problem is. Most of the time you can catch those by just doing a visual of the harnesses. Anything that doesn't look right, probably isn't.
