coolant leak and overheating

my 2001 grand am was running fine and then one day overheated quickly.
when i pulled over i realized it had dumped all the antifreeze. saw a white
steam coming from under the hood, and the hose furthest
towards the back attached to the coolant tank was split and could not see
what it connected too on the other end of that hose. what could have
caused this to happen, and does anyone know where that hose goes too?

If the other hoses are old or even original, you might as well go ahead and change them out also.

i just got the car out of the shop 3 days ago. they replaced the fans and thermostat. the hoses look brand new, even the one that was split in half. im just not too sure what it connects too in the picutre it would be hose "5".

Your link is no good. If you just had the cooling system worked on, you should have it towed back to the shop. It could be a possible comeback issue and if there is engine damage, they might be on the hook.

They always leave the important parts out of the question.
If the car had a previous overheating, it very likely has internal damage now such as a blown head gasket.
