hey fellas. hope you can help. i have a 2002 pontiac bonneville ssei 3.8L V6 supercharged with 175000 miles on it. i have had cooling issues on this car intermittently since ive owned it. i have replaced the water pump twice in the last 2 years. i have been through too many thermostats to count. it will run right for a while after replacing the tstat. after a while, it overheats as if the tstat is sticking, rising to high temps and then suddenly it will drop in temp. i have replaced the water pump assuming that it is faulty. again, it will run for a while and then the syptoms return. while it is overheating, there is no hot air coming in the vents. this has lead me to believe it is a tstat issue each time. i have bought the failsafe tstat the last two times, with the same results. i have taken the hoses for the heater core off and ran water from the hose through the intake hose and it comes out of the outlet with no resistance. i assume this means my heater core is not plugged. also, the fans are working when they should.i am very frustrated with this as it is my wifes car, and she loves her heat. also dont want her to get stranded at some point with an overheated engine. any input is good input. please help. In the previous years they had a problem with the plastic intake deteriorating and leaking coolant into the valley and then into the cylinders. I don't know if they have resolved the issue. They also have trouble with intake gaskets. At this point you may even have a blown head gasket. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
