The only thing you have to know is the spring side goes toward the engine. Other than that, there is no specific position. Be sure the gasket is cleaned off thoroughly on both surfaces and scrape any crud out of the groove before installing it..

As just said - spring side toward engine. Easy on alloys but have all surfaces clean by scraper. My game and might be alone is to grease new gasket. Just a smear. If you are ever back there again it won't need scraping to clean up.

T-Stat should index itself to be in proper position. If needed with this one hold it in place with wire in housing and pull the wire out all carefully placed to do just that.
