Hi,
I have a 1995 Cadillac Deville 4.9L V8 with a 112000 miles that is making grinding/creaking noise. It's coming from the rear right wheel, happen when I'm driving straight and especially when I turn left and when I drive at a slower speed < 20mph.
It started this afternoon, after I did some work under my car (changing the transmission pan gasket and the transmission filter). I jacked the car, I'm pretty sure I used the frame to support to do so, I lifted the rear right side of the car in third and un-jacked it in third too.
I drove it around the block once I was done and did notice a little bit of noise coming from the rear right wheel. For some reason I thought it might had shifted on it's axis while I was lowering the car and the weight was not evenly shared and that now that it was back on the ground and could not move anymore and blocked in a diagonal position
two parts were grinding on each other.
So I lifted the rear right wheel side again, I did notice that the wheel made some noise as I was lifting it and before it was off the ground, as if it was rubbing against the ground so I thought that it was indeed off of it's axis and that it moved back.
I drove it again around the block, it was still making a little bit of noise, wich stopped after I took a little bump when I was coming down a little slope (thought, oh everything came back in place, haha).
I went to run some errands, did not heard too much noise (I had the music on though), but on the way back home it started to make a lot of noise (I even stopped to check if I could see anything flagrant like a piece of metal sticking out of somewhere). Back home I took the wheel off and immediately notice a piece of metal that was freshly grinded. I fail to identify what part it is, after a quick research I think it might be the Sway Bar End, here are some picture of it:
The shiny part is all grinded up even if it is a bit hard to see from the pictures.
I took the rear left wheel off to see what was the other end connected to (cause I thought this part might have been disconnected), but the other end does not have this "wrench" (let's call it like that) at the end, it's the same end, without the "wrench".
Also the wrench can move like an articulated arm.
So my questions are :
- What is that "wrench" ?
- Is this "wrench" most likely the cause of the grinding/creaking noises ?
- Is it where it's supposed to be (the right angle, not attached to anything) ?
- What could have had damage from badly jacking up my car that could result in this kind of noises ?
- Should I drive my car ?
Well the last one is a little bit... I have work in the morning a 05:00, I would like everything to be fixed by then but I doubt it will be :) If the noises are persisting once I have put the wheels back I wheel check up tomorrow if the grinded part of the "wrench" has evolved to confirm if it's where it comes from (also if it is, I do not know against what is it grinding because I could not find another damaged part on my car/wheel).

Your right that it is a rear sway bar link. Looks like it may have been rubbing on the inside of the rim.
It is ok to drive the car with the link off till you get the replacement installed, but you don't want it rubbing against your rim.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thank you for the answer, last night I put the wheels back on and drove a little bit, it was still grinding so I parked and checked the inside of the rim since I now knew the exact location of the noise and indeed, it was rubbing on the inside of the rim. So I pulled it up and then back to make it at an angle where it would not touch it anymore. Drove it an hour today and did not here any noises :)
Will try to find some material on how to replace it.

But am I supposed to leave it hanging there ? Is it not supposed to be connected to something ?

No, you're going to remove that one and install a new one. The bushing is gone in that one.
