Hey guys, help me understand this... This is 2.4 with the p/s pump driven on camshaft. Hard steer/no assist. Cracked open pressure line with engine idling. No pressure. Had used pump on shelf, put it on. No change. Verified that camshaft gear is turning and not stripped. Shouldnt that pressure line have pressure even if there is a problem in the rack? Never had a rack problem cause that. Thinking I have two junk pumps, but want second opinion ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

Yeah, got it now. Took it back off and put it on bench and used cordless to spin the pump shaft. Vanes must have been stuck, it spun for a while without pumping, then broke loose and started pumping. Engine rpm must not have been enough to break it loose. Have since found the end of the rack is rusted and blown out, leaking bad, hence the empty and inop p/s pump. All good now. Once again, no one here helped me with their magic wand or crystal ball.... ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

Heck, I would of revved it up to 10 grand instead of going through the hassle of removing the pump...LOL Reminds me of a 2000 BMW 528i rotary vane ac compressor that frequents our shop. When the compressor started going bad the vanes would stick. To get it working, you had to rev up the engine. You could actually hear the "tinks" as the vanes popped out. Then it would freeze you outa the car. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I had held it at 3k or so, trying to get it to pump while installed. Never had one stick like that, so I didnt even think to really push it. I pulled it back off, prepared to completely disassemble the pump. Only two bolts, right on top, no belt to remove. Then I thought I would try to spin it with my cordless impact and see what happened... Lesson learned. I might start doing that whenever practical, especially on a hard to get to pump, even though Ive never had a problem like that before. ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn...
