When I turn the steering wheel to the far left, And then start turning the wheel back, about a quarter turn back there is a clunking sound. I cannot figure out where it's coming from. This happens when the car is in park, And also while driving, but not as much, and sometimes I do not hear it at all while driving. I'm not much of a mechanic, I know a little bit but not a whole lot. From the information I gathered on the internet This probably .has something to do with the steering column, the upper shaft? I'm not sure I just wanted to get some opinions, before I go start replacing parts. Thank you for your help in advance.

You definitely shouldn't go replacing parts. There is a common sense approach to this that all mechanics use. Get a helper to operate the steering to duplicate the sound while you follow the noise with your ears. Isolate where the noise is originating and then decisions can be made on how to resolve it. You have a worn part somewhere in the steering and that has to be located. It is VERY unlikely to be the steering column. I have seen symptoms like this when the mounts for the rack and pinion get work and the rack starts shifting under the pressure but by no means take that as a diagnosis. Find the source of the noise. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
