2008 Subaru Outback - difficult steering after starting Sign In

Our 2008 Subaru Outback (about 92,000 miles) recently starting having the following problem: When the car is first started, the steering wheel is hard to turn and shudders back and forth quite vigorously when you try to turn it. After the car has been driven about 100 feet, the problem goes away.

I don't know if this is related: we recently had to have the head gasket replaced and the cylinders machined.

Any thoughts? -Thanks.

Hmmm? It's all wonderful in 100 feetCrazy

IDK - Guess I'd check drive belt for pump for tension, condition, PS fluid level first. If all fine with that probably go on and change out fluid as best as possible as a maybe fluid is sticky from heat at rack and pinion and hope that might solve it but hard to know if this isn't going to misbehave when checked without something obvious like an oily belt or any reason it might slip or lose power assist for a time and come back so fast?
