Control arm failure, exposed driveshaft? Sign In

So I was doing my control arms for the first time, ended up finally getting it out but the boot from my driveshaft or I mean cv axle came off can't seem to get the band off of it to reinstall it, lost a lot of the grease also. Just curious how to solve this problem correctly. I assume I need to get the band off and purchase a new one then buy driveshaft grease and pack it in the boot before re installing the boot back into the shaft? Is there a specific way I have to align it? Just trying to be safe I've never had anything like this happen and I drive with my children so trying to make it just as safe as it was. Thank you for your time. Tried to upload a picture but it is too large

# 1, please state basics like YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF WHAT.
DIY always was a problem with tools. Many of those clamps you could snip off and install a new one.

That or I suspect it's already had whole new CV shafts and was never tight enough or clamp failed?? It shouldn't easily be able to jump out of the detent it sits in.

Price out whole rebuilt shaft probably cheaper/easier plus IDK the condition of boots now apart like that with clamp still there may have ruined it??

You didn't specify if it was the inner or outer. I'm suspecting it was the inner as that one is susceptible to easily pulling apart. This is a common issue when inexperienced people try removing an axle.

There are individual rollers in there that can come apart.
As Tom suggested, the smartest thing you can do now is just buy a new/reman halfshaft. You still have to get that shaft housing out of the trans which will require a very strong pry bar.

Yes, it is the inner, passenger side. Acura MDX 2005. My boot is still in fine condition. Just cv grease everywhere. The rollers did come off the spider, I'm looking into buying a new passenger side axel and just replacing it but an option wouldn't be just buying a new clamp and grease putting the rollers back on the spider regreasing it then putting the boot into that section it came off of. Then reclamping the boot?
