Front end alignment Sign In

2010 VW Jetta
In March I had my left strut (spring) replaced and a front end alignment done. Today I noticed the tire on the passenger side is badly worn on the inside. Dealership is telling me that cant do a proper alignment unless both springs are replaced. I dont understand what the spring has to do with the tire running at 90 degrees to the road.

Springs have to be replaced in pairs to properly align the vehicle. Case closed. The exact height and performance of a spring will change so at least must be the same on each side or it could never be correct,

Ok Thanks for the answer. I guess Ill have to replace the other spring. I would like to understand why. The spring is attached to the wheel (in a round about way) and the other end is attached to the body of the car. Im thinking that the wheel alignment adjusts the wheels to run square and true to the frame of the car why does it mater if one spring has more resistance to compression. To me all that means is the left side of the car might not bounce as much as the right but the wheels are still square to the frame. I quess this thinking is wrong

Vehicle height directly effects wheel alignment. If a strut or a spring is weak and the height changes often, the wheel alignment changes with it.

Rick: To add, don't think of a "tire" alignment only as there isn't such a thing. You are lining all the things that hold wheels in place, steering and height count front or rear even a heavy load in it. Uneven tires or even a pair of a different brand or correct size. Just know it all matters so nobody is playing games with you,
