Doing a front wheel bearing on a 2004 Hyundai Accent. I am wondering how I should press the new one into the knuckle. I assume I am to use only the outer race but since they put the seal in the outer race you only have a ring abt 2mm in width at the outer edge to work with. My press kit has one driver just barely too big for the job and the next size down doesn't get much of the work area and I am afraid of damaging the seal if I use it. What should I do?

What I usually do is press the hub out first. The inside half of the race will remain on the hub. I then use a cut-off wheel to cut most of the way though that race without cutting into the hub and then use a chisel to either split it or drive it off the hub.

Well that is all done now. I am just talking about. putting the new bearing in.

Press it into the knuckle first and then pres the hub into it while supporting it on the inner race on the other side.

I see now that the knuckle has two bore diameters and the one above the snap ring groove is very slightly larger and will fortunately accept that driver I thought was too big for the job. That driver contacts the full outer ring of the race and should be fine. And it looks like the bearing will bottom in the knuckle before the groove is passed so it will not run into any interference. I'll post again when it is done.
