I have a ford expedition 2002 with 175000 miles on it. Today i drove over a railroad crossing going about 30 mph. The front end started to shake. I pulled off the road and looked underneath. A bar. With a cup like thing at the end had come loose. After some time i figured it came loose from a ball shaped thing next to the wheel on the steering. I turned the steering wheel until it fitted back on. I wrapped some duct tape around the bar so it wouldnt come loose and i was able to drive it home. What caused this to come out of the socket? Can i fix it myself? How much would it cost to fix if i took it to a repair shop. I dont want to drive it again until its fixed

You had a tie rod pop out of the socket.

This car is not driveable this way. It is totally unsafe. Duct tape will not hold your steering together. You need to have it towed to a repair shop.

You're the type of person that I stay far away from while traveling on the highway.

I'm sure you have a lot more going on than a slap worn out tie rod. Have the front end inspected by a professional before you kill yourself or someone else.
