Tire Valve Stem Broken. Replacement?

I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My low tire light came on so I went to fill them up, but when I took the cap off of my back left tire the cap was just pressed on there. The part of the stem the cap screws onto has broken off and the valve core is exposed and I can't inflate my tires. I can only let air out. I was going to replace it myself, but didn't realize I had TPMS in all of my tires. If I replace the valve stem I have to replace the TPMS as well. It will be about a $100 to do so. I've been looking around for a way to fix the stem without having to take the tire off and replace the sensor as well. If I do that the sensor will have to be reset in the computer of the car. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

There are no shortcuts here. You have to replace the sensor.

I found something where someone drilled out the valve and the core, tapped it, and then inserted just a new valve onto the existing one and sensor, but lets say that doesn't work. I have a spare tire that should have a sensor in it as well (or so I've read). Could I just take the valve and sensor out of that tire and replace it for the bad one. That way it would already be connected to the computer and I wouldn't have to pay for a new one. Would there be a problem with that?

If your spare tire has a sensor, then it is already part of the circuit and removing it would create an error for that tire and put the light on. Just replace the sensor. If you can't afford a $100 repair, then you probably should be parking that car and finding another mode of transportation that doesn't require money.

You're right that it would set off the light, but if I could switch them out and put the spares sensor on the actual tire on the car then I could drill out the old stem and replace it for a new one to put back on the spare. I would be alright the with the sensor being on because of something I caused by taking the spare sensor out. Nothing is impossible and just about every mode of transportation will still require money.

We don't assist in disabling safety features. Our advice is to replace the defective sensor.
