04 Mountaineer trans rubbing noise Sign In

2004 Mountaineer
8 cylinder
115000 on car, 65000 on rebuilt trans

I live just outside of Detroit, we just go back from a trip to southern Florida where we put 3,000 miles on the vehicle. Everything went fine on the trip, but when we got back we started to hear a rubbing noise, from the trans I'm assuming. When the car is in any gear there's a rubbing noise (almost like the sound of hitting the rumble strips on the shoulder of the highway). The noise accelerates with the rpm's of the vehicle, whether the vehicle is moving or not. I don't notice any other problems with the vehicle like slipping. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Forgot to mention that there is no noise when the car is in neutral.

I think this is something that you would have to get on a hoist and isolate where it's coming from.. It's hard to say what you are experiencing without actually hearing it my self.
