04 impala with a 3.8 ltr with 97,000 miles on it. I bought it with 92,000 and according to car fax it had a tranny flush done at 70,0000. When I'm at a stop sign or at a slow roll and i take off again the tranny will hesitate then slam into gear. Sometimes its subtle and other times its real hard. It doesn't do it all the time and shifts fine through out the rest of the driving range. 3 tranny shops did diagnostics on it and no trouble codes. One shop thought it was the motor mounts so replaced them and still no change. Shops are baffled two of them say i need to rebuild it and two others say its not in the transmission?? Not sure who to believe. If wonder if that pressure control modular is bad?? but wouldn't that throw a code??? since there's such a delay in the shift shouldn't it throw a code anyways??? Not sure what else to do may have to drive it til something brakes i guess. Brent

If it's full of fluid when it does this, then you have serious internal problems. Could be bad pump, plugged screen, bad valve body or many other things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

ya its full of clean fluid, there's no record of the filter being changed though. I suppose a person isnt going know without completely tearing apart the trans which then you might as well rebuild it????

You can't completely go by trouble codes. Those are only good for the electrical parts of the system or areas they moniter/control. They can't ''see" mechanical failures or broken parts. If this problem is happening all the time I'm surprised that between 3 different trany shops one could couldn't either confirm or rule out a trans issue. Did they test drive it & feel the problem?

two of them did, one thought it was motor mounts and i had him replace them which i didnt fix the issue and he doesnt know what it could be. He insists cause of the delay in shift that there should be a code 1811C to be exact, another shop test drove it and said it had to be rebuilt since he did pull the pan off and there was a lot of grey sludge on the bottom of the pan. He said that was a sign of brass parts wearing out.

I thought these transmissions had problems with pressure control solenoid. Would actually wear the bore in the valve body allowing fluid to get past. Is about a $400 repair. I know pre 2002 they where knowen for that, but not sure if that problem was rectified by 2004.
