2004 chevy Malibu Maxx 3.5l 6 cyl. auto trans. Well the car will get down the road a few miles before anything starts. but the tranny starts slipping in and out of gear. it does this while just cruising or during exceleration. Funny thing is the speedometer stops working. it starts to jump around while the tac climbs with the engine reving. First thing I did was change trans. oil and filter. That didn't help. it does this in drive or low gear. to get home I had to put in low and try not to use much gas. Any help would be great
Thank you : Steve
ps I have an ultragauge and it brings up no codes on that.

You need to take it to a shop that can access the manufacture side of the PCM to see if there are any codes being stored.

There are two sides. OBD2 and manufacture side of the PCM. Your code reader is only able to access the OBD2 side. There may be transmission related trouble codes on the other side that won't turn the check engine light on.

thanks I didn't figure my gauge was really any good though it does give some codes.I'll take it someplace for that. I have been doing some more checking and found there is a transmission speed sensor. there are 2 of them, one inside ( transaaxle input speed) one outside the transaxle output speed. the outside one shouldn't be to hard changing. when I have this thing fixed I'll surely fill you in on what all was done.
