06 Grand Prix revs but doesn’t move

I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, regularly maintained with around 125k miles. I noticed some slight chugging for a couple days and then it just stopped. Then as I was driving in town running errands, I had put it in park, hopped out and when I got back in to leave, it would rev up but not move. I shut it off and turned it back on and it worked again, moved just fine until I had stopped at the stop sign and it did it again, shut it off turned it on and it moved fine. Did this all the way home. There are no lights on the dash and the last time I put a code reader on it had no codes listed. Any ideas what it could be or where to start looking?

My guess is there is an issue with the shift linkage and it's not going all the way into drive. What about reverse? Does that work? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Reverse does the same thing. Seems whenever it stops moving initially after start up it will only rev up

Have you checked the fluid level? I'm going to move this to the transmission category as we have a trans expert in that area (gsferraro).

Quote OP: > " i had just had it changed maybe a month before <" HT asked if YOU checked it not if it was changed. Bet that caused it to be low would explain this? Check it! I can smell it's just low and it's being ruined, T

Hello, If this stops moving hot, shut it off for a few minutes and it moves again, that is your main sump filter in the transmission is clogging up. Gary
