Hello out there in Tranny land,, I have a 1969 Ford PU, 6 cylinder with the manual 4 speed transmission. This is an old Washington State Forest Service Truck. Runs great so I bought it from the guy down the street,, a bit rough so it got the Satin Black paint job treatment,,, O.K.,,, Everything seemed to be fine but I was backing it up the other day and as I went to shift it into Reverse the gear shifter spun out to the right almost like it was coming unscrewed or something to that effect. I did get it into Reverse, parked it and right now it is sitting. Must be something loose? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Guess that you have the ole T18 4 speed. You'll have to remove the shift lever to see what happened. The cap unscrews from the top of the shifter housing. The pin might of broke allowing the whole lever to flop around. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for the great schematic, I think I can follow this information and at least locate if that's the issue. Sounds logical and right up my 'ol school capability alley.. Very cool, Big thanks and I'll report back when I find resolution.
