1989 Chevy Cavalier z24 3spd auto Trans Sign In

hey guys, i have a 1989 chevy cavalier z24 convertible v6 2.8 with a 3spd auto trans.

when its cold the trans seems to slip, i could put it in drive and rev it to hell and back, nothing catches. if i put it in reverse it engages right away. I can also put in drive and rev it a few times and it will slowly catch, depending on how cold it is outside. but once it catches its fine

what should i do in the situation? get it rebuilt, or buy a rebuilt one?

That depends on how bad yours is inside. The end result is the same but the cost may be different.

If you are still driving this car , in an effort to keep it together, you should ABSOLUTELY NOT drive it when cold. Let it warm up. Every time you step on the gas and it doesn't want to go, you are burning clutches. If your problem is caused by hard rubber seals, you might try adding one tablespoon of brake fluid to trans. Old school fix for hard seals but temporary. If it works for a while you know seals are bad. Overhaul time, sooner or later I'm afraid.
