I can shift the trans with engine running, clutch out nothing happens. No grinding of gears. It feels as if it is shifting internally, all hydraulics appear working. Sister says it just quit working coming up a mountain grade. ???

Classic for plain worn out clutch. Happens fast once slipping without a lot of notice ahead that it's failing. Be glad it's a pick up as those are easier ---- usually. If in nice shape and a keeper still think about at least the slave cylinder too if it's much easier on this when it's all apart and the flex hose too and if really into it go for the master and call it done for a while, T

Was thinking more after I posted. This could but not likely IMO be linkage stuck as if you were depressing pedal to floor but doubt that. Double check as you really wont see much till it's apart. Right now it's still grabbing a tiny bit so wouldn't grind into a forward gear but might into reverse is you went real slow, that probably would give you a "zip" of a grind. Don't try that too hard to harm it. Still just smacks of a worn out clutch. There really isn't that much meat on them and once they start slipping the time is short for them to move vehicle at all, T

Still way up there on the odds, 99% worn out clutch........... But one more to rule out that clutch linkage is somehow stuck as if depressed is to watch what you can see move underhood on down with a helper playing with the clutch. I'm basing this on the truck was just going along and then up a hill then slipped and quickly nothing - right? Had you said you were popping the clutch out to burn rubber like a fool and parts of things all fell out from the trauma who would know or even guess at what could snap but you didn't suggest that. The plan is just don't be wrong, need your observations vs being right there and it lines up. Many wear outs like this if just RWD or all wheel off ground if 4X4 just the breeze of the worn clutch would spin the wheels. No harm in checking, double checking before you do this and when there almost nuts not to. Check how parts are sold. Just a disc, set with disc and throw-out bearing and the pressure plate. Really should do all that at least if keeping this thing. This shouldn't be a real expensive job DIY. Your call on taking flywheel off and having it turned. Most will say do it. If a real junker on last legs just put a disc in it. Whether you do this or not good time to put some penetrating oil (love PB by name) on things that need to come apart now so much less chance of breaking things. Make sure the trans support and frame is good and rust isn't out of control if an issue where you are at all. Some with age you may fight like crazy for bolts to mounts, a cross part that supports trans and more or find some crap gone from rust which is when you decide to fix or say good bye to this truck at some point even if running well it's a problem where I am lots younger than this truck. Are you doing this job yourself or sending it out? I won't carry on with more if it's going out for the job, T
