1994 F-150 5.0 Down Shifting Problem Sign In

HI, I have a 1994 Ford F-150 5.0 with a 166813 miles on it. When I accelerate from a stop the transmission shifts fine but once it is up to speed it does not down shift when you press the accelerator to the floor but the transmission can be manually down shifted. Why will it not shift the transmission by its self once the truck is up to speed?

Which transmission? c-6, 4r70w, or e40d? Does it kick down in any gear (other than 1st, of course)?

Thanks for replying but I am not sure which transmission I have, how do I tell? But yes sometimes the transmission will down shift in second or third and sometimes even in over drive but it is rare in any gear it usually will just stay in over drive and slowely pick up speed with the peddle pressed to the floor.

Look at the pan. If it has OD, it isn't going to be a C-6.

I looked at the pan and I believe it is a 4R70W AODE transmission. Thanks for the pictures.

The shift timing, kick down, tcc lock up, and pressure control is all electronically controlled by the powertrain computer on the AODE. One important input for transmission operation is the throttle position sensor, so you should check the operation of it. Also would be a good idea to check for trouble codes being stored in the powertrain controller. You'll need an EEC IV code reader.

AngelicThank You, the problem was the Throttle Position Sencer. I changed it out by takeing the whole Throttle Body off because it is located on the bottom of it which just was 4 nuts and a couple of hoses. It only took about an hour that's including cleaning the Throttle Body. It is people like the ones on this site that make America GREAT! Thanks again.
