I have a 1997 Chevy Z71 and the transmission (Automatic)shifts hard from 1st to 2nd but the rest of the gears shift ok. It does not do it all the time. When it does have the problem the RPM's will hang up. Sometimes when at a constant speed the transmission will shift and downshift on it's own at about 50 mile and hour on a flat surface with steady pressure on the gas pedal. But this does not happen all the time. The fluid level is good and the transmission was rebuilt about 5000 mile ago. Any suggestions. Thanks bsbdays PS: I drove it for two days in a row and it did not do it at all. But last night it did it on the way home from town. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe they didn't use right piston or piston spring for the transmission band. If it was just rebuilt take it back and have them fix it. There is a tool to measure if the piston will produce enough pressure on the band when applied.
