I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid, 3.5 engine, 189,000 miles, 65,000 on a rebuilt transmission. The problem is that after driving for about 30 minutes, when I come to a stop the transmission seems to hang in neutral for about 5 seconds, then drops into 1st. Once I start going, it shifts fine, until I have to stop again, then there's the pause before it drops into 1st gear again, sometimes hard. I haven't had any other problems with trans shifting and it doesn't do it until after about 30 minutes of driving. After sitting for a couple of hours, its fine again until about 30 min. into driving.

Typical Dodge transmission. Check your fluid level and color. It should be pink. If you have the filter changed, make sure they use the Mopar specified fluid, Dexron/Mercon will damage the unit further. Steve
