My key won't turn and the automatic shifter will not move out of park. First automatic car got it a fews hours ago. The same thing happened when I drove my friends automatic 10 years ago. I think I somehow took out the key before putting it in park. I read I need to hit the shifter over ride button, push in the break and shift all at once to fix it. On this car I cannot for the life of me find it. I looked and looked. Does anyone have any idea where it's at on this car?

Is this column or floor shift? You're not supposed to be able to remove the key from the ignition unless the shifter is in park on that model. There is actually a safety recall because people were able to remove the key from the ignition and not have the shifter in park.
You should find out why the key won't turn in the ignition. Have you tried another key?
How were you even able to test drive the vehicle before you bought it if you can't turn the key??

Sorry if mentioned already or missed? Since this happens to you and didn't to another are you plain turning the wheels hard either way then removing the key? You can just plain stick column lock if steering wheel want to return some on it's own and near impossible to turn key - then no shifting possible if that works.
If so, don't steer that much to park cars and remove keys. For now if this is so try turning wheel harder towards direction you turned to get it free to work. If real hard locked by a turned wheel, weak key you could bust it so then if this is it mind you, you would hoist the front of car, both wheels in air but know you then are relying on only parking brake and should never only rely on the "PARK" position only but rather set parking brake first strongly then turn key to park to remove it,

FIXED!
I went and tried to turn the steering wheel to the right, the opposite direction of how I turned it while parking. It would not turn. I put the key in, the wheel moved and the key was unlocked. I started the car and tried the shifter it worked. I followed the steering wheel lock guide in case that would unlock everything else. "If the key is difficult to turn, move the wheel slightly to the right or left to disengage the lock"
I don't know if that is what fixed it or if what exactly I did to cause it. But that is my best guess.

Good Catch Tom!  Tom's right. If you bind up the steering, you'll have a hard time trying to rotate the lock cylinder. I admit, sometimes I get so caught up in problems I forget the basics. Glad to read you're back on the road again. Closed as solved and can be reopened by request from the OP.
