Hello, I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 1500 slt with a 5.9L with aprox. 170,000+ miles. When I drive an average of 55 mph or better for a few miles the Overdrive shuts off (meaning overdrive light illuminates and it shifts out of overdrive). If I continue to drive at that rate the trans Over Temp light illuminates. So rather than risk further damage I pull over and let it cool for a bit. This trans has been rebuilt once already. It shifts fine although I have noticed if I let it set for a long period of time it takes a few seconds to move once I put it in drive or reverse. Could this mean the torque converter needs replacing or do I need another rebuild? :-(

Could be torque converter problem Torque converter clutch not engaging. Plugged cooler, lack of pressure (pump, plugged filter and etc).. Would have it checked out if its just torque converter would be a lot cheaper then tranny.. might be something simple as a TCC solenoid to hard to say. If the O/D off light came on then there will be a stored code in it hopefully.
