I've got a 2000 Pontiac Bonniville, 6cyl, auto, that can run great for a while then start shifting irratic. Then it'll run fine again. Dealer says it is a transmission filter problem and will cost approx. $600 to repair. Have any of you had this problem? Do I need to hurry and get it fixed to avoid more problems? Does it sound like a transmission filter problem? Any help is appreciated!!!

jerry; First, I'd recommend getting a second opinion. If it is the trans. filter, yes, you need to address it immediately or you'll burn up the trans. Are you seeing any 'glitches' in the speedometer readings? Check engine (or service soon) light illuminated? To flush the trans, replace the filter is almost always under $150.00. Must be more to it than the filter? Loren SW Washington

Loren, Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn't answer back right away. Seem to have developed a blood clot in my leg. No, no 'glitches' in the speedometer readings and no check engine (or service soon) light illuminated. Actually, it hasn't acted up once since my posting. Not sure what to think. May still need to do the filter and fluid change. Maybe there's a little dirt floating around in there.

Jerry; Sorry to hear about that blood clot. I surely hope you are seeking medical help. Can be very dangerous. I make a point of getting up every ten minutes and walking to fridge for another beer. No, seriously, hope everything turns out okay. Take care and obey the Dr. You are more important that that car. Loren SW Washington
