2002 Mercury Mountaineer, AWD, 150K+ miles, Problem is that: transmission slips bad from 1st to 2nd gear, engine races, then SHUDDERS hard into gear "Check transmission light and O/D light flash)....seems to run pretty smooth in 3rd/4th gear. Haven't had any lubrication done since purchase (I know, I'm a bad boy) I did take it to this one place (can't remember name) a couple of years ago, told me they "believed" metal filings were in the fluid causing problems. wanted an outrageous amount to rebuild and repair. Just want an opinion from you guys. IF based on this info (or whatever you ask) you "recommend" I get it redone, well so be it...I want to keep this car, it's almost paid off. (SPring next year), but if it is not so bad, and doesnt require rebuild well good, what next? so that's it. Hope to hear from you soon.

At the miles without any care it's probably ready for an overhaul, T

So you've never had the transmission fluid changed or flushed since you purchased the vehicle in 2002?
