Have 2003 Ford Taurus SE w/81,000. Trans will not shift to lower gear when going up steep incline hill. I have to push accelerator to floor to 'punch it' sometimes engine simply bogs down when I do this and then engine light comes on. Goes off aftre 1 mile or so.

Have the code read on the check engine light and post the code number back here. The check engine light could be a problem in the transaxle.
