Working on someone elses 2003 MPV. When they brought it their complain was transmission harsh engagement and harsh shifts. The OD OFF light was flashing; tried to pull codes with scan tool-none. Jumpered the pins in the diagnosic box under the hood-no codes. Passed stall test, resistance and live tested all the solenoids through a connector on top the trans-all within spec. Put a line pressure gauge on the trans and its got good pressure actually just a little over spec; but, when it shifts into forth the pressure drops to zero. Ive changed the fluid and while it was dark, it smelled ok and there wasn't any noticeable chunks or debris. Now I discovered a P0327 code for a knock sensor. There's continuity to the sensor connector, no shorts, but there's no voltage from the pcm. There could possibly be a connection between the code and the trans.

If the OD light is flashing then there are codes in the TCM and you will need a high end scan tool capable of accessing the TCM.

Were you accessing the TCM or the PCM?

I just went to move it out of the shop--the problem's gone altogether. I had thrashed on it pretty hard before parking it.Unsure

Both.

I did some more driving with the gauge on it; it shifts great, the line pressure is dead on spec at idle not a little over like before, no light but it still drops line pressure to zero in forth.

We have a trans expert here, gsferraro. He will be along eventually but if that OD light flashes again, try to get the codes. It probably had some sort of power interruption to lose them, possibly when you disconnected the trans connector to pin test.

Hello,
On these transmissions, number one common issue is the high clutch piston cracks, they have been updated since. When the piston cracks(most of the time you cant see the crack) it will affect 3rd,4th,and 5th gears, may give you flared or runaway shifts. Gary

I'm pretty sure though I haven't proven it yet; that my issues are knock sensor related. I had the knock sensor code when I was having tranny trouble, presently the trans is acting ok and the only thing I know I did was that I left the t-pins in the knock sensor connector.

The knock sensor input effects ignition timing, not transmission issues.

But wouldn't the tcm need a knock sensor input?

Then why is it "fixed" when the knock sensor is ok?

I don't know it probably isn't. I have looked at the wiring diagram for the TCM and there is no knock sensor in the circuit.

Would this be an intermittent problem? (It's acting up again. No surprise 'cause I didn't fix anything.)
