Hi, I am new to this site but desperate for an answer! This morning I went to leave for work, put my car in reverse and it sounded like I backed into something! In panic, put the car in park, checked to see if I hit something and no, so I put the car in drive and it would not go in drive as well. Gear shifter works fine. Shifts into gears fine! Added Lucas transmission fluid because it was a little low. No lights are on. No slipping or shifting issues.

Not sure what you mean? It seems like you are saying it's working and shifting fine now - is that what you meant?
#1 - Don't add junk (Lucas trans fix anything in a can stuff) to vehicles. If it was really low you need to know why and where it went. About all you check level when warm not cold or it could read low of a normal range. Must also be level surface when checked.
Site has a transmission specialist who should be by. Questions will be as asked, why low and was it really low, color of fluid.
From the read so far seems like fluid level was low and engine revved up and slammed into reverse waiting to build up pressure to do so with low level so again if it was low need to know why,

AWD? Check your CV axles and make sure they are intact.

you only added the 1 bottle to correct level?
You will need to check for codes. even if light is out.
You could CAREFULLY very CAREFULLY try starting vehicle - 1st in N then in a gear.. Select the gear that would get vehicle safely out of parking space D or R .....this will ck if trans is shifting... I am hoping just a cable linkage issue.

Couple of things to check first, are there any codes and how is your fluid level. This car is actually based on a toyota, there is a toyota transmission in this car. Gary

Yes it is all wheel drive. It seems like it is a break issue or something like that but I'm a girl what do I know?! Gear shifter works fine! Just won't actually reverse when I put it in reverse and won't go forward when I put it in drive. On my driveway I noticed a skid mark on the rear passenger side, like it skidded out when I reversed it.

No I did not feel anything strange at all. I recently had a coil changed due to a misfire on cylinder 4, prior to changing that is was running like crap but since it has been driving perfect. Drove home from Wed evening just fine! Got in it Thursday morning to go to work and now all of this!

My neighbor just jacked the car and discovered that my back passenger side tire is not spinning! Will keep you posted.
