2004 f150 5.4 automatic tranny problem

2004 f150 5.4 ltr 118000 mi. guy who had it hired a shade tree mechanic to fix the original transmisson that was shifting hard into second and third sometimes...mechanic diagnosed it and said he needed a new transmisson of which, he just happened to have for sale...so now the new transmisson you have to let off gas let it shift then press gas then let off... shift... you get the picture...im stumped any advice on how i might proceed i would be grateful for.

purchased a newly rebuilt transmission and the ol truck shifts just its suppose to now
