2008 Saturn Aura 3.6 with 6T/70 trans 160K Sign In

Hi Gary, I need some advice on this one
I bought this car at the auction and found major trans issues. The initial problem was erratic shifting and slamming into specific gears and then going into limp mode. It was setting a P0777 code Clutch Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 2 - Stuck On.

After a bunch of research I decided to replace the valve body/TCM combo unit with a reman part from Dorman. I uploaded the programming from the old one and wrote it to the new one.

Now I have the same type of issue but slightly different with different code being set. Now it sets P0756 Shift Solenoid (SS) 2 Valve Performance - Stuck Off. It seems to have a delayed engagement from Park to drive and seems to skip second gear. Once it sets the code, it goes into limp mode and disables overdrive.

The inside of the trans looked pretty clean with no debris, although it looked like someone had been in there before.

What are your thoughts here? Is it an internal problem? Could it be external wiring? defective replacement part? programming problem?
I am aware of the wave plate problem these have but my understanding is that effects reverse also and that is fine on this one.

I have done the quick relearn a couple of times with no change.

What do you think Gary?

Ok, so the actual valvebody and TCM were replaced? With these transmissions, i am not a fan of doorman, i will not use them, too many problems with that product. another common issue that could set solenoid performance codes are the speed sensors. If you still have the original body, i would open that make sure the checkballs are good and get an OE TCM from the dealer, around here they go for about 600.00 thats net. Do you still have issues in the higher gears? Gary

The higher gears are good if I clear the codes after 25MPH. The codes keep it in limp mode and reset every time I take off from a dead start.

I really can't afford to use dealer parts on this. It is a used car that I can't put that much money into, especially after paying for the Dorman part. The Dorman cost me $279 and no programming. I can't add $600 + another couple hundred programming.

If my part is defective, I can get it replaced. That's what I am trying to find out. I know my input sensor works as I saw it in data. My speedometer also works so I assume that means the output sensor is good also. The new valve body came with new sensors.

My big concern is dumping money into something that has internal issues.

Can I rule out any external wiring?

Ok, i would go with another valvebody/tcm. ( I spoke with my trans parts supplier who sells them, he has gotten some back from being defective) When i was at a seminar a few weeks ago and was talking to a doorman rep about this, he admitted to there being issues with them. so i would go with another setup. Thank you Gary, I spoke with another builder friend of mine and he concurred with you on that. I have contacted the parts supplier and they are getting me another one. I really hope this is the problem.

I have one question that you may or may not have the answer to.
When I ordered it they asked for the VIN number I assume to program it in. Along with the unit, it came with a tool that uploads the program from the old one and them writes it to the new one. Do you know if that tool retains the program to write it a second time or should I download from the replacement unit with the new tool?

Thanks for the help Gary

Thanks Gary.

I'll probably play it safe and do the whole thing over. I was just afraid something might be lost in copying a copy from the unit that's in the car right now.
