2010 Impreza Clutch Issues Sign In

Hey, I've just ran into a serious issue with my 2010 manual Impreza hatckback.

I was starting on a hill when all of a sudden my car stalled, and the clutch stuck to the floor. Smoke, and a burning smell.

I managed to get the car into gear by lifting the clutch pedal and got it home in 1st, trying to shift as little as possible.

Now, whenever I press the clutch, the trans has an awful squeaking sound and the RPMs begin to jump around. Once I get the car into gear, there are no other problems.

Can anyone tell what the issue is from this info alone, or will I have to drop the trans?

Sounds like it could have broken a pressure plate. At first I thought it ruptured a hydraulic line for the clutch but that wouldn't account for the noises.

You're going to have to get it inspected to find out what happened.

Reading online, and I'm thinking its a failed rear main seal, and the squeaking is from oil on the clutch. Its a high mileage car (150k) and I bet the RMS is still the original.

No, seals don't let go suddenly and that would have no effect on the clutch pedal staying down.
