2013 Mitsubishi lancer hard to shift from park Sign In

I have a 2013 Mitsubishi lancer with an automatic transmission and this year I have been having problems shifting out of park when I start the car. I have to wait around 5 minutes for the car to warm up before it lets me shift out of park.

When I say difficult to shift from park I mean to physically move the shifter down from park. There is no button to press and the brake peddle feels fine when i press down on it.

I have read around and some people mention that a linkage may be gunked up or a solenoid replaced but I don't know much about automatic transmissions so I'm unsure where to start.

Any suggestions?

Brake light work? Must be yes just look for linkage underhood and see it. Lube that and possible at mid car underside more to lube. If just a design flaw may require an updated new part I haven't heard of this being a chronic problem for this car here anyway,

Yes, there is a solenoid that is operated by the brake lights so make sure they are working at the time you are having the problem.

The symptom of working when warmed up could lean toward the solenoid being weak.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I have already tried to search for a shift interlock solenoid for my car and I could not find anything like that on ebay or even a Google search for that matter. I hate to ask but could you find the locking solenoid that goes to my car?

It's a 2013 mitsubishi lancer es 2.0L i believe

I didn't find any availability either.

There is a good possibility that it is sold as part of the whole shifter from the dealer. I have seen that a lot.

Damn. I was really hoping it wouldn't go down that route. Do you think there is a possibility if I inspect the solenoid and search for the model number I could possibly find it that way?

That's not likely but you could probably find a used shifter pretty reasonably.

If you have a wiring diagram HT, that might be helpful.
I had on a few years back that was having similar problems that turned out to be a shifter interlock solenoid relay.

Ask and you shall receive...........

This is for all but the Evolution

This also pretty much confirms the solenoid is part of the shifter assembly.

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi lancer hard to shift from park Sign In

I'm not sure of your electrical skills, but the schematic HT posted will make it very easy determine the problem. Get a volt meter and check the blk/red wire coming for the brk switch going into the relay. That should have a solid 12v every time the pedal is pressed. The blk/white from the relay going to the solenoid should also have 12v, with no voltage drop.

If all that checks out, then it's time to start searching for a solenoid/shifter assembly.

The Blk/red is the constant power supply to the switch. The pink one is the "brake applied" power signal.

From top ">>I have to wait around 5 minutes for the car to warm up before it lets me shift out of park.<<"
Why would this be electrical guys? Seems IMO only that time running it's warmed up and can move when cold stuck physically the most exposed item that turns early underneath shifter and or at trans itself first then this IDK temp matters with time running as said other than it frees up?

Temperature effects the resistance in coils and the solenoid has a coil in it.

Just asking and sure. Just chance last few were sides (RWD ones) of trans or top in this case (I think) where they turn? Tom

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi lancer hard to shift from park Sign In

After looking at that diagram a bit closer it looks like this is an ECU module and not a junction block.

It looks like its a ETACS unit which I guess is similar to a body control module.

A quick search showed a recall on some years.
