4l60e goes to neutral from 4th downshift on wot

I rebuilt this tranny and now have issues with 3 gear. Originally had 2-4 band burned and the drum of course. Also the forward sprag was locked. I replaced with a used sprag and drum , new band and clutches. Now when I do a wot downshift from 4th it goes into what feels like neutral , revs up to 6 grand. Part throttle is fine. I even noticed on moderate throttle pressure it did the same on a 2-3 upshift. So it seems like the problem is 3rd. I had this unit scanned and did not have any codes other that an evap emission code. I did check tps however and found that absolute tps shows around 30% with no throttle pressure. I had it scanned with an snap on scanner and the tech told me it had to be a bad throttle body. Replaced that with still the same results. Also noticed the shifts are a little harder than normal but not a real problem. I have rebuilt about 10 of these 4l60e`s and this is the first to give me fits like this one. Please if anyone can help. This is a 2007 canyon 4 cylinder.

Hello,
You actually may have two problems here. Question, when this upshifts from 2nd to 3rd do you have a flare on the shift? Lets start with that and i can go into detail how this trans works. Gary

After this tranny came out of second the engine just revved up like neutral. It only did this once. But the 4th wot or almost wot even, the engine over revs like to 6000 rpm. I even tried a downshift from 50 mph and it did the same. No slippage in any gear that I noticed. I have the vb out right now and rechecked my work and found nothing.

Hello,
Ok, When this trans shifts into 4th, the foward clutch and and input sprag are released. When your in 4th and you go to kickdown to 3rd, the sprag has to hold, which it probably is not. The sprag has been updated for better holding. It went from 26 elements to 29 and now is a duel cage. Do you know if the sprag is updated? Gary

No it probably was not updated. That was a thought of mine about that sprag too. I was wondering if they would actually slip backwards. I probably need to pull it and install a new one. I just never had an issue with one until now. I did read some bullitens about that sprag issue.

Not really slip backward, just cant hold. As you may know the sprag turns one way and locks the other way. Gary. Tip, If your going to pull this back out, pay attention to the rear stator bushing. Also those late input drums(2004&up) have issues being loose where shaft splines into the drum, will cause the 3-4 clutch to burn. Gary

Problem Solved. It was the inner race that was scored on the sprag. You could tell it was slipping there. Thanks for the help
