Working on 1996 Chevy k1500 with 4l60e trans. The wiring connectors that plug into the neutral safety switch on drivers side always give me fits. I think GM puts a sealant in those plugs and are always a bugger to get out. About 50% of the time I can wiggle and curse them out, but the other 50% the plastic breaks. Any tricks to help? ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

Sometimes a heat gun works, but the reason the connector is stuck on is because the potting compound inside the switch melts from high temps and leaks into the connector cavity. To remedy the situation you have to replace the switch and install a pig tail harness. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks. I had to get them out before i saw your reply so I thought i would try hitting them with some heat. They did come out easier that way, but had to get it hotter than I was comfortable with. What is potting compound? Just out of curiosity. I have a tendency to ask alot of ?s (sometimes stupid ones) ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... It is basically a rubbery substance that they use to protect circuits from the weather/vibration. It is probably used in the switch to keep moisture out. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
