'83 caprice oil leak

hey i drive an 1983 chevrolet caprice classic 305cid wagon. in tha last two weeks i have to put two cans of atf oil so ican drive the car good. when i drive the car there is awhite cloud go behind me in the rear. i went to amechanics he tell me the trans seal damage. i change the seal the front one and the rear for the trans. but its still the same. i pay about 120$. i get upset i put five cans of atf on the trans and i drive the car for about 20 minute then i stop an i look down. i found from where its leake. the oil go to exhaust pipe and make that white smoke. look the image please. the seal i already replace it. the area of leak. what could be the damage. _________________________________________ I'm chasing to freedom in new york city.

I really don't understand your picture. It looks like you have drawn a transmission and a what looks like the vacuum modulator and vacuum line. My best advice is to clean the outside of the transmission really good with brake cleaner. Then start the engine and watch where the leak is coming from. Possible leak areas are: Modulator O ring or ruptured diaphram shift shaft seal transmission pan gasket Cooler line fittings Dipstick tube grommet Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

One other thing to check, if the diaphram in the modulator you've drawn is ruptured, it will suck trans fluid into the engine & burn it. Is there trany fluid in that vacuum line when you remove it off the modulator?

67eleanor: Good work at graphic attempts. If your pointing marks are the leaking area that appears to be in between two pan gasket bolts. Clean area and watch for new seepage. Common problem with stamped steel pans is over tightening those bolts which will make them sink into the metal and a rise/lift in between them with little pressure in the right place or damage? Your eyes to see the leak return after cleaning area completely. If so, take the pan off and check with a straight edge and you'll see the flaw. If so and pan is OK a ball peen hammer with clean pan positioned on wood can put the holes if (found many over the years) distorted back in place and check with a straight edge again. Gaskets of cork or cork and rubber mixed should be snugged up in staggered pattern not much more than "screwdriver" tight and rechecked a couple times then again a few day's of use later. They don't hold the car together so easy with how tight. Smile, you can snug up more later but can't snug them up less! T

hey bros. thank you for you support. i found the leak area and i think i fix it. im sorry i couldn't take photo for the damage parts. now the atf level is same after 24 hour after fixing. special thank for Tom Greenleaf. i read many of your post. idnt know if you are professional or not i never saw your work But I'm sure you know what you are talking about. i trying hard to move to america. i would like to meet you then. _________________________________________ I'm chasing to freedom in new york city.

Thanks for the kind words and pics of what has to be a fix as I can't see a drop! Yes - I did all the vocational school and a two year both vocation and the sciences (just double hard) in college. Always had too many cars and folks would give me their lost causes that I would fix up to be safe a legal cars for sale or keep one for a parts-go-getter. Long done with any biz now so just wearing out keyboards (three already!) just sharing the knuckle busting years with others, Tom
