i have a 93 gmc sierra 2500 extended cab long bed pickup it has 160000 miles on the truck i know the moter was replaced but it still has the stock e4l60 transmission in it. the transmission started to slip when you got on it i tried to put some trans-x in it to help it but now it slips all the time and it makes a loud thud when you stop with it in reverse it sounds like its coming from the drive shaft. i just want to know what i should try first one person told me to do a diognostics check to seeif a silinoid is going bad but it dosen't sound to me like something a silinoid would do another person told me to take off the tranny pan and check to see if there is metal shavings in there if there is it obviusly needs rebuilt but what would it be if there isn't? any comments or suggestions are much appreciated thanks, lugnuts8393

By age and miles if known true and not redone it needs it if you want it to be dependable IMO. Slipping will quickly take out wearing parts of a trans and I know of no magic for that, T

thank i figured it had to be rebuilt i didnt think it could be a sensor. ok next question would it be easier to pull the engine and tanny and rebild them or would the stroker 355 or stroker 383 with either a 700r4 or turbo 350 trans thats already been rebuilt be a easier solution and if it would be easier to rewire and switch out the trannys which would be easiest to wire in?

Keep it OE or expect to invest in headache meds! 700R trans is a good trans and keep it that or have better help than I can offer to change that. It's slipping - NOT a good sign, T

ok but what im asking if i put the 700r4 would it match the wireing since the e4l60 (turbo hydromatic 700r4 with electronic shift) is basically the same tranny other than the electronic shift. so i need to know say i cut the wres to the silinoid for the electronic shift what would i have to do from there (splice ,plug in will they match where to cut and reconect wires like if at all possible pctures or just anything that would help the transfer of the transmissions. thanks

i dont want to get the current engine and tranny pulled and get the new one put in and find out i have to do a ton of wireing like rewire the engine and tranny or even wire a diferent computer in there.

Already said. Keep it OE as intended or forget the whole vehicle and buy what you want. No games with stuff since about the 1960s! Tom
